Ingredients

  • 1 family-size box brownie mix for a 9×13-inch pan, plus ingredients to prepare
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • cups corn syrup
  • 4 eggs
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter melted
  • teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups pecans chopped or whole

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and set aside.
  • Prepare the brownie batter according to the package instructions. Pour into the prepared baking dish.
  • Bake the brownie base for 20 minutes, or 10 minutes less than the time recommended on the box.
  • While the brownies bake, mix the sugar, corn syrup, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract in a medium bowl until well combined. Stir in the pecans.
  • Carefully remove the partially baked brownies from the oven and pour the pecan mixture evenly over the top.
  • Return the pan to the oven and bake for 25–35 minutes, or until the pecan filling is set but still has a slight jiggle in the center.
  • Let cool completely at room temperature (about 1 hour) before slicing into 20 squares.

Notes

If a family-size brownie mix isn’t available, use two regular 8×8-inch brownie mixes with their listed ingredients.
A combination of chopped and whole pecans adds great texture.
For clean slices, chill the brownies briefly and use a sharp knife.
